At Dollar Junk Store, we believe that every item deserves a second life.

We are an online-only store offering second-hand toys, books, and textbooks—all for just $1. Many of our items were once loved and treasured, and while they may no longer be needed, they still have so much value to give. Our goal is simple: to turn what some may see as “junk” into someone else’s next favourite thing.

Dollar Junk Store began as a real-life learning experience for kids—a way to understand sustainability, responsibility, and the impact of small actions.

Instead of throwing unused items into landfill, we asked a simple question: what if we could make it easy for these items to be reused instead?

That’s why everything is priced at $1. It’s not about making money—it’s about making these items accessible while giving them a fresh purpose.

You might wonder why we don’t simply donate everything to an op shop or thrift store.

While donating is valuable, we found that many items can sit unsold for long periods and are not always available online or easy to search for. This means the right person may never find them.

By creating this website, we make it easier for people to search for specific books or toys and give them a new home sooner rather than later.

We use Australia Post, and shipping costs are based on their standard rates.

For example, a single book may cost around $11 to ship. When you purchase multiple items, shipping is combined—typically around $17 to $18 for several books—which can bring the cost per item to under $5.

We are not a high-volume shipper, so we do not receive discounted rates. We do not make any profit from shipping—these costs simply cover postage so we can continue operating.

All items are sold in good faith and are photographed individually, so you can see exactly what you are purchasing.

Because these are second-hand, one-off items, we do not offer returns or exchanges if you change your mind.

The only exception is if we have made a mistake and sent you the wrong item. In that case, we will correct the order at no additional cost to you.

Please also note that all items are unique. Once an item is sold, it is no longer available, and we are unable to restock identical products.

We do not make money from this project.

Every dollar simply helps cover basic costs so we can continue to rescue items from landfill, make books and toys affordable, and help them reach another child who will love them again.
